March 6, 2024
Hey, Salt Lake! Are you looking to get out of town? Today, we’ve got the ultimate guide to Midway.

What's CITY Talking About?
Salt Lake City’s Zoning Code
Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall has plans to overhaul the city’s zoning code, condensing 28 districts into six. The goal is to simplify regulations, make development easier, and encourage people to take public transit. The city hopes to finalize the revisions quickly and run it by the Planning Commission for approval by the end of the year. [Building Salt Lake]
Poplar Grove Peacocks
You may know about the turkeys of Rose Park, but do you know the peacocks of Poplar Grove? These birds are much-loved by residents and have been around for more than 80 years. They were brought to the neighborhood in the 1940s by floral shop owners Leon and Leonne Brown. [KUER]
The Utah Royals
Three-time Olympian and Utah resident Linsey Vonn has announced part ownership of the Utah Royals. The women’s soccer team has returned to Utah after being transferred to Kansas City in 2020. The home opening game is March 16. [KPCW]

Today on City Cast
As the [Senate budget chair] said, 'It is a socks and underwear kind of year.' That's a joke that he makes when it refers to the kind of year where you don't have a lot of money for Christmas gifts, so you give people socks and underwear as gifts because it's what you need and not what you want.
What Lawmakers Did About Air Quality, Liquor, and Housing
In just 45 days, Utah lawmakers passed nearly 600 bills. It’s a lot to take in. Fortunately, FOX 13 Capitol Hill reporter Ben Winslow was paying close attention. Ben joins host Ali Vallarta to break down what legislators did about the issues Salt Lakers care about most — from housing and homelessness to the air we breathe.

Boop boop.
