Salt Lake Chatter
Hey Salt Lake readers are all a chatter with big ideas on things to do and what they'd like to see for an art installation in Fairpark.
On Ideas For an Art Installation at a Fairpark Traffic Circle
“What I’d like to see there is a sculpture featuring the natural landscape that was there when the Mormon pioneers arrived. It could be made of metal or real grass and scrub brush.” — Amy R.
“Not a baby whale. I want to see a giant gnome!” — Beth T.
On Solo Dates in the City
“From the Ground Up: Rock and coffee shop
Cactus and Tropicals: Plant store
Shinobi Sushi Bar & Grill: Best sushi in town
Living Room Hike: Behind the U” — Samantha B.
On Youth Activities
“I work at Camp Tuttle, a youth camp in Big Cottonwood Canyon that strives to be a safe place for all youth to be themselves and experience nature. We have a youth retreat March 16-17 for grades 5-12. It will be a wintery fun time with sledding games, hot cocoa, and more. We also have scholarships available so every child can come experience camp!” — Christine J.

Today on City Cast
We're trying to impose a framework that is fundamentally inconsistent with the way that [unsheltered people] exist, and the way we really need to respect them is by stabilizing them, by giving them housing, by allowing them to do that. But if we want to do it right, I think housing is the big winner.
How SLC Criminalizes Homelessness
Salt Lake City police are asking for an extra $1.8 million from the City Council to keep cracking down on illegal camps. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court will soon decide whether cities can punish people for sleeping outside when there’s no shelter available. Taylor Hastings, an attorney with the Salt Lake Legal Defender Association, joins executive producer Emily Means to explain how the city criminalizes homelessness and what measures could keep folks out of the criminal justice system while trying to survive on the streets.
