Dirt Pots

Drop everything and run to the Harmon’s City Creek. City Cast Salt Lake podcast host Ali Vallarta found these sweet succulents on a recent trip there. No, not in the plant section — in the bakery 🤯 That’s right, these li'l guys are desserts. The pot is chocolate, and the “dirt” is crushed Biscoff cookies. [City Cast Salt Lake]

Clean Slate Backlog

In 2019, Utah passed a Clean Slate Law for automatic expungement of criminal records, which led to a surge in demand. Currently, there’s a backlog of over 312,000 cases, so lawmakers are considering a three-year pause to catch up. Advocates from Clean Slate Utah support the bill but suggest a shorter pause. The bill would also form a workgroup to improve workflow at the Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification. [KUER]

National Cyber Attack Affects Utah Pharmacies

A national cyber attack affected some Utahns' ability to receive their medications. Cybersecurity issues at the Medicaid pharmacy vendor Optum means certain pharmacies, like the University of Utah Health, are unable to process insurance claims. To help mitigate, the Utah Department of Health and Human Services issued a 72-hour emergency supply of medication at no cost to Medicaid members. [FOX 13]

Outdoor Recreation in Utah

The state of Utah has written its first ever strategic plan for outdoor recreation, the goal of which is to ensure Utah has “the nation’s most well-funded and well-managed outdoor recreation system in the country.” So who is the Republican legislator tasked with this planning effort? And how is he thinking about everything from Moab’s tourism crisis to the Little Cottonwood gondola? [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]

Shoutout to Andrew S., Virginia R., and Lily H. for guessing the location of this concrete jungle where (coffee) dreams are made of. It’s at the Harmon’s in City Creek where you can grab an edible succulent and a cup of joe.

Do you know where in Salt Lake City you could find this Dee’s Hamburgers? (@forgotten_slc/Instagram)

This week we have a throwback of what used to be. Do you know the location of this now-defunct (RIP) 1980s Dee’s Hamburgers?

Hint: Its successor was mentioned in our funeral for late SLC establishments.

Will a New Strategy Change Where We Recreate?

Utah has a shiny, new strategic plan for outdoor recreation; the first of its kind. What does it mean for the places visitors and residents “love to death”? Draper Republican Rep. Jeff Stenquist, the chair of Utah’s Outdoor Adventure Commission, joins host Ali Vallarta to break down the strategy for delivering on “the nation’s most well-funded and well-managed outdoor recreation system in the country.”
