🥔 The best running tips for couch potatoes
February 20, 2024
Welcome back after the long weekend! Question for ya: What elementary school songs live in your head rent-free? For me, it will always be the “Utah State Song.” City Cast Salt Lake executive producer Emily Means remembers the “Pizza, Pizza, Daddy-O” song with very questionable lyrics. Tell me yours below!

What's CITY Talking About?
West Side Underpass
Plans for an underpass — part of the I-15 expansion project — at 400 N. in Salt Lake City faces backlash from residents who describe it as unsafe and ineffective. Concerns over usage and maintenance lead to the plan’s postponement. Alternative solutions like a crossing at 1000 N. are under consideration. [Salt Lake Tribune]

The Boob Bus
Hop on the Boob Bus, Utah’s first and only mobile breast imaging service. Their mission is to make women’s health convenient. Services include mammograms, genetic testing for breast cancer and other health concerns, and certain cosmetic procedures. The bus graced the Maverick Center over the weekend. Find them parked outside Silicon Slopes on March 8 at 10 a.m. [ABC 4]
Is SLC Visitor Friendly?
In a report by Oddspedia, Salt Lake City was ranked as the NBA’s second least visitor-friendly city due to a lack of entertainment options and sports culture, including no sports museums, NFL, NHL, or MLB (though that could soon change). Never forget when Charles Barkley called our city boring during All-Star Weekend. 😤 [Axios]
Would You Have Kids?
Reproductive justice is the talk of the town after Rep. Karianne Lisonbee (R-Clearfield) introduced a bill walking back Utah’s abortion clinic ban last Thursday evening. But reproductive autonomy is about so much more than abortion. Today on the City Cast Salt Lake podcast, host Ali Vallarta and birth worker Ashley Finley have the incredibly prevalent (and sensitive) conversation shared by Salt Lakers of all ages: Should, could, and would we choose to raise a family in this city? Today on City Cast
I personally, from like the core of my being, believe this should not be the case, but family planning is a privilege in this city. And I'm so aware that even getting to make the decision and feeling empowered to make the decision is a privilege.
Two Salt Lakers Weigh Having Kids
Utah leaders often tout us as a family-friendly state. But with declining fertility and marriage rates, it seems Utahns are more hesitant than ever to start their own families. Salt Lake City-based birthworker Ashley Finley joins host Ali Vallarta for a candid conversation about what goes into deciding for ourselves whether to have kids in Salt Lake.
Take care.
