What's CITY Talking About?

More Liquor Licenses, More Rules

The Utah Legislature is considering reducing the arbitrary population quota of one bar license for every 10,200 residents, aiming to add at least 100 more bar licenses and 200 full-service restaurant licenses in the next five to seven years. With this, lawmakers also seek to create more compliance positions to monitor alcohol sales and implement a “place of last drink” program. The establishment where a person was drinking before being involved in a DUI or crash would be logged into a database, and if a bar is consistently dinged, they’ll “get more scrutiny” (whatever that means). Pizza Grant

The city of Vineyard in Utah County is receiving a $25,000 grant from Domino’s pizza to help with snow plowing efforts this winter. Twenty cities around the country were awarded this grant based on nominations and snowfall totals. Vineyard snow plow drivers will also receive $200 Domino’s gift cards. [FOX 13]

The Soulmate Trap

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Utah researchers caution against the notion of a soulmate. Their study showed that unrealistic expectations of “the one” can be damaging in relationships. The focus should be on agency, intentional actions, and the knowledge that there are several opportunities to find enduring love. [ABC 4]
