How to celebrate Black History Month in Salt Lake

February 6, 2024

Good morning! In today’s newsletter, learn more about Black History Month. Plus, ways you can celebrate in Salt Lake.

What's CITY Talking About?

Tradition Closed

Sadly, Tradition on 900 S. (known for their yummy funeral potato dish) has closed. As of Monday, there’s no official word on their socials of if/when the restaurant will reopen, but reservations are unavailable on their website until March 1 with a note, “Construction and building improvements. We apologize for any inconvenience!” Allegedly, all front and back of house staff were laid off last week. [Reddit]

The Lottery in Utah?

Proposed legislation could allow voters to decide on legalizing the lottery in Utah. Advocates for this movement believe that the revenue could benefit schools and infrastructure. Annually Utahns spend about $200 million on out-of-state lottery tickets. [FOX 13]

Artist Yearbook

Come Thru Later and Sunny Ivy Gallery are making a yearbook to highlight young local artists. If you or someone you know is interested in participating, send a direct message to Come Thru Later on Instagram. [Instagram]

Salt Lake’s Changing Skyline

Grand plans for Salt Lake City’s downtown could bring big changes, from the skyline to the way we access city streets. So what does the neighborhood’s new city council representative Eva López Chávez make of it all? We weren’t surprised to hear her use the word “renaissance.” [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]
