What's CITY Talking About?

Bewilder Brewing Discontinuing ‘Deseret’ Beer

Salt Lake City-based Bewilder Brewing Co. has halted production of its Deseret IPA beer after they were contacted by an attorney representing businesses owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They cited potential trademark infringement and gave a few months for the brewery to cease production and sell the remaining stock. Bewilder’s owners plan to rename the beer in the future and sell it seasonally or as a one-time release. [Salt Lake Tribune]

Cold Stone Creamery

A lot of popular chains in Utah have been cited for violating child labor laws within the last year — Crumbl, Sodalicious, and Chick-fil-A, to name a few. Now, various Cold Stone Creamery locations in the state have been fined $42,000 for having 14 to 15-year-old employees work too late or too many hours on a school day. [FOX 13]

Anti-DEI Bill Passes Senate

Utah Senate Republicans rapidly passed a bill to dismantle diversity, equity, and inclusion programs in public education and government. Now as a result, Native American tuition waivers that use state funding could potentially be impacted. Many students who benefit from DEI initiatives have voiced their concerns about the support they depend on going away. [Salt Lake Tribune]

If I have a neighbor, and they start keeping bees ... and the bees are just lawless, then I can see why I would want there to be some sort of regulation around that. But like in terms of noise or aesthetic, nothing could be cuter than those little hive things.

Renters’ Rights, Disqualifying Judges, and Free the Bee

Another week of the Utah Legislature in the books.
