Found Photo

Does this photo belong to you or someone you know? It was found at the Macey’s grocery store (5300 S. 900 E.) in Murray on New Year’s Eve. It appears to be from the 1950s or ‘60s and was very well taken care of. Hopefully it can be reunited to the family album it belongs to. [KUTV]

Gun Safes in Classrooms?

Rep. Tim Jimenez, R-Tooele, proposed a bill that would reimburse teachers $500 to keep a gun safe in their classrooms. Teachers who opt into the Educator-Protectors Program will participate in an annual four-hour firearms training and hold a valid concealed carry permit. Another section of the bill says that participating teachers and schools will be protected from “civil damages or penalties” if they acted in “good faith” or weren’t “grossly negligent.” Meanwhile, the sponsor is working on changing the language to address concerns. What To Look For in the Cold & Flu Aisle

A study by Brigham Young University nursing professors is helping simplify things in the cold/flu medicine aisle. Instead of focusing on brand names, look for active ingredients to help suppress symptoms: pseudoephedrine for congestion, dextromethorphan for cough, and diphenhydramine for a runny nose. While these ingredients are nice on symptoms, they won’t stop the spread. For that, you’ll want to get vaccinated, wash your hands, and stay home when you’re sick. [KUER]

The Great Salt Lake

It’s been nearly two years since the New York Times called the crisis at the shrinking Great Salt Lake an “environmental nuclear bomb,” triggering existential panic among Salt Lakers. We are already experiencing dust storms from the drying lake, whose lakebed is laced with arsenic. Last week the Great Salt Lake commission released a strategic plan to save the lake. So, what’s in this plan that’s got activists feeling so optimistic? [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]

Utah Made a Plan to Save the Great Salt Lake!

Utah’s Great Salt Lake commissioner recently released the first ever strategic plan for tackling the crisis at the lake. What’s in it, and will it move the needle on one of Salt Lake’s greatest existential threats? Chandler Rosenberg, co-founder of Save Our Great Salt Lake and deputy director at the Great Basin Water Network, joins host Ali Vallarta to give her take.

See ya.
