City Cast Salt Lake
Your guide to Capitol Hill & Marmalade
January 10, 2024
Hey, Salt Lake! The Sundance Film Festival is happening next week. Are you:
A) Planning on seeing any movies?
B) Going to peep celebrities?
C) Avoiding Park City altogether?

What's CITY Talking About?
Code Blue
Utah’s Code Blue law allows winter shelters to expand their capacity when temperatures fall below 15 degrees, but many homelessness advocates say that’s way too low. State homelessness coordinator Wayne Niederhauser seemingly disagrees. While he wouldn’t oppose suggestions to increase the temperature, he has no plans on asking for that change himself, saying, “I personally have felt that this has worked very well so far.” [Salt Lake Tribune]
Flu-Related Deaths
The Salt Lake County Health Department confirmed five deaths from influenza just this year. Since the start of flu season (October 2023), there have been over 350 hospitalizations for flu-related symptoms. Health officials also note that multiple strains have been identified, which is unusual, because a typical year only sees one strain. [ABC 4]
Carbon Monoxide Detector
There have been quite a few carbon monoxide stories popping up in the news. Most recently, a Smith’s in Sandy was evacuated after high levels of the deadly gas were detected. Do you have a carbon monoxide detector in your home? This is your reminder to get one, or check that yours is in working condition. [FOX 13]
