🚙 How to park like a pro in SLC
January 8, 2024
Hey, Salt Lake! I’ve been doing some reflecting, as you do in January, and I’ve been thinking back on the best things I’ve eaten this past year (a full roundup to come later this week). Tell me, what would make your list?

What's CITY Talking About?
More Than 135 Shots
Salt Lake City police officers fired over 135 shots in 29 incidents from 2022 to June 2023. More than half were discharged in a single shootout with an armed carjacker. The rest consisted of putting down an injured animal, accidental discharges, and other officer-involved incidents. [Deseret News]
Blooming with Pride
Artists, florists, and horticulturists alike are invited to participate in Blooming with Pride. This event by Red Butte Garden will celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community and wonderful world of plants. Selected artists will receive a stipend to create an installation. Applications are open through Jan. 31. [Red Butte Garden]

A Democrat Running for Governor
Today is the last day to declare candidacy for Utah’s 2024 election. Challenging Republican Gov. Spencer Cox for the top job is a Democrat from Salt Lake City, Rep. Brian King. So why the hell would a Democrat want to run for governor in a state where Republicans rule? [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]

Where Is It?

So many of you knew this sign is for the Town & Country Market on 2840 S. Main Street in South Salt Lake.
You love their sandwiches:
“Best sandwiches in town!” — Trent C.
“Delicious sandwiches. Now my mouth is watering.” — Brooke B.
Even though it might be haunted:
“Despite the fact that I live right around the corner, and this place has 4.8 stars on Google, I've never actually seen someone go into or come out of it …” — Lizzy M.

Can you locate this mural of labor organizer Joe Hill?

Today on City Cast
We've had in Utah for decades single-party control, and I think that we all know that ... power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. I think we've seen that in the state legislature and with our governor's office.
Defying the Odds To Elect a Democratic Governor
For nearly 40 years, a Republican governor has led Utah. In recent elections, GOP candidates have walloped Democrats by at least 30 points. So why does Democrat Brian King think his bid for the state’s highest office will be any different? King, who represents Salt Lake City in the Utah House, joins host Ali Vallarta to make his case and explain what he hopes to accomplish — even if he doesn’t win.
Happy Monday!
