🥞 Are these the best pancakes in SLC?
December 11, 2023
Good morning! Can you even believe it’ll be the new year in a few short weeks? Do you have any resolutions for yourself, your community, or Salt Lake City that you’d like to share? We would love to hear from you.

What's CITY Talking About?
Utah Attorney General Not Running for Re-Election
Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes announced he will not run for re-election in 2024. It’s been a scandalous few weeks for Reyes. He’s been called out for taking campaign-funded trips, for his nonprofit’s questionable practices, and he is named in the criminal investigation involving Operation Underground Railroad founder Tim Ballard. This marks the third consecutive Utah Attorney General to leave office amid controversy. [Salt Lake Tribune]

No Federal Funding for Train to Boise
Sadly, a proposal to further study passenger trains from Salt Lake City to Boise and Las Vegas didn’t receive federal funding this year. Although an official reason wasn’t declared, it’s suspected that the proposal was rejected due to lacking enthusiasm — not from community members, but from officials. [Building Salt Lake]

Post Malone Loves Cottonwood Heights
That’s it, really. When he’s not making a Raising Cane’s, rapper and Utah resident Post Malone is declaring his love for Cottonwood Heights. This clip was included in a video by the city that also featured Cottonwood Heights mayor Mike Weichers. [KUTV]
Road Raging
This time of year we are on the road, and from snow to the stress of holiday travel, it can be anger-inducing and dangerous. Now, lawmakers are looking to define road rage. Utah drivers are often ranked as the worst in the nation, but how much of that is us responding to our environment? [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]

Where Is It?

Shoutout to Anchita J., Jodi P., Bob N., Tammy K., and April K. for correctly guessing last week’s mural location. Honestly, if there was a Salt Lake City “Where Is It?” trivia night somewhere, I’d want you all on my team.
One reader said, “This mural is at the Hardware Apartments. I only know because I used to live there.”

This week we have a reader-submitted pic of a giant trophy.

Why Utah Has a Road Rage Problem
It’s that time of year when everyone is on the road, trying to make it home for the holidays or racing up the mountain to ski. And this year, we’ve seen a lot of headlines specifically about road rage leading to crashes and, in too many instances, death. So, what are state leaders doing about unsafe drivers? Salt Lake Tribune innovation reporter Sofia Jeremias joins host Ali Vallarta to break down why we’re so bad at driving and what solutions are on the table.
Till next time.
