City Cast Salt Lake
The cheapest Christmas trees
November 28, 2023
Hey, Salt Lake! Terina is out today, and I’m City Cast Salt Lake podcast host Ali Vallarta subbing in. Today is Giving Tuesday 🫶, which means this email might have been buried under donation asks.
If you are planning to write a check today, I’ve got tips below for maximizing your local impact and stretching your dollar. Plus, a big ol’ weekend news dump.

What's CITY Talking About?
High Rises in Downtown Sugar House?
A Chicago developer filed an application to rezone for 300-foot high rises in downtown Sugar House, if they are constructed with sustainable materials. Harbor Bay Ventures wants to go sky high at the site of the Wells Fargo building, 1095 E. 2100 S, and could build a radical new Sugar House in the process. This application could be the first big decision for whoever wins the Salt Lake City Council race to represent District 7, which is most of Sugar House! [Building Salt Lake]

Election Night Favored Incumbents
Former Mayor Rocky Anderson has formally conceded the SLC mayoral race to Mayor Erin Mendenhall. Incumbent SLC councilmembers Dan Dugan (District 6 — East Bench) and Sarah Young (District 7 — Sugar House) and challenger Eva López-Chávez (District 4 — Downtown) all have leads, but their races are yet to be called. Final ballots are still being tallied, but the election must be certified by Dec. 6. [Salt Lake Tribune]

So, on this Giving Tuesday, I tell executive producer Emily Means the do’s and don’ts of giving your $$$ — from maximizing the local impact of $5 to making a Salt Lake nonprofit employee’s day.
