How to score an incredibly chic license plate
November 27, 2023
Good morning! I love a good seasonal food and drink. When you’re craving a holiday beverage to warm your soul, where do you go? Also, are you sipping on hot cider or eggnog?

What's CITY Talking About?
Armed Officers at Utah Schools
Utah legislators are considering making it mandatory for all schools to have either armed officers or volunteer “guardians” on campus. Volunteers would have two mandatory trainings a year, must have a concealed carry permit, and undergo a total of 84 hours of initial firearm and de-escalation training. The draft proposal would also require schools to have two-way intercom systems, panic buttons in each room, video surveillance, and limited entries. [Salt Lake Tribune]

Ski Bus Season
Ski bus service is up and running in Salt Lake County now through April 13. There will be all-day bus service up both Cottonwood Canyons. For the first time, the Utah Transit Authority will have back-up buses to help during peak times. [Utah Transit Authority]

Why No Lesbian Bars?
According to Gallup polling, Salt Lake City has had a higher percentage of queer residents than Los Angeles. Yet, look around you and find not one single lesbian bar in this city. So, uh, where did they go, and how do we rebuild them? [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]

Where Is It?

Shoutout to all of you who correctly guessed the location of this apricot (not a peach!). It’s next to the Harvest apartments in Marmalade.

Next up is a random statue of Abraham Lincoln. Do you know where he stands?

Today on City Cast
When you could walk into this space and see all different types of women who like women, it really gave you a sense of belonging ... It made you feel physically safe, mentally safe, because you didn't feel so alone. And although we have other queer spaces and generally gay bars, I think that there's something different and something really important about lesbian bars.
Can Salt Lake Dream Up a Lesbian Bar?
Salt Lake has been named one of the queerest cities in America, and yet, we have not one single lesbian bar! So how did we get here? Host Ali Vallarta asks born-and-bred Salt Laker Sarah Reale about the days of yore and — most importantly — the future we need to invest in.
Take care.
