Is Daybreak an urban paradise?
November 16, 2023
Good morning, Salt Lake City! Terina is taking a day today. I’m City Cast Salt Lake podcast host Ali Vallarta subbing in with a skinny edition of the newsletter.
We’ve got some union news below, which feels timely, given that this Saturday at 9 a.m. SLC is unveiling a monument dedicated to musician and labor activist Joe Hill.

What's CITY Talking About?
University of Utah Healthcare Workers Unionize
Utah Health Workers United Local 7765 has arrived. The University of Utah is not legally required to recognize or negotiate with the union (per state laws), but collective organizing can be hard to ignore! Employees of the U’s enormous healthcare system are demanding improved staffing as well as wages and benefits that better reflect the local cost of living. [Salt Lake Tribune]

Wait, Is Daybreak Cool?
The Salt Lake Bees are moving to Daybreak, a master-planned community in South Jordan. And while a lot of Salt Lakers scoffed at this decision, recent data shows that 56% of urban Utahns desire more planned living. Daybreak resident Samora Magadla recently won the lottery and decided it was the place to put down roots, which has host Ali Vallarta asking: Is Daybreak cool?
Take good care,
