Where to whack a racket in the Avenues

November 1, 2023

Good morning! A Hey Salt Lake reader asked about the best “third places” in the city:

“I work remotely and live alone, so I'm often desperate for somewhere to go after a long day of sitting in my apartment. When I don't have social plans in the evening, I just want to get out, be around other humans, and read a book. Most of the coffee shops close at 5 p.m. and it's getting into winter temps, so parks are out. Is there anywhere else in Salt Lake where I can go?”

Rep. Lyman Is Running for Governor

State Rep. Phil Lyman (R-Monticello) announced that he’ll be running against incumbent Gov. Spencer Cox for the GOP nomination next year. Lyman faced a federal conviction in 2015 for an ATV protest on federal lands, but was pardoned by former President Donald Trump in 2020. His legislative efforts include sponsoring a failed bill to end Utah’s vote-by-mail-system. He is backed by far-right groups like the Utah Patriots militia group. Check out his campaign video.
