The pros & cons of working at a fear factory
October 24, 2023
Hey, Salt Lake! There’s only one week until Halloween and we have a scary-themed newsletter for you today. As a ‘90s kid who was raised by TV, I was reminded of all the creepy shows I watched like “Goosebumps,” “Tales from the Crypt” and “Are You Afraid of the Dark?” Did you watch these shows, too? Which was your favorite?

What's CITY Talking About?
The Fate of the Utah Mountain Lion
A controversial law that allows year-round mountain lion hunting passed in this year’s legislative session. Now, it’s being challenged in court by the Mountain Lion Foundation and Western Wildlife Conservancy, who claim that overhunting mountain lions could lead to their extinction in three years. Studies have also shown that it can cause the animal to exhibit more aggressive behavior toward humans. [Salt Lake Tribune]

The I-15 Expansion on Air Quality
The widening of I-15 from Farmington to North Salt Lake may very well be on the horizon. A report by the Utah Department of Transportation suggests that the expansion would help improve air quality by 30% by 2050 due to less stop-and-go traffic, less emissions from refineries, and more fuel-efficient cars. But some are skeptical about the projections. University of Utah professor of atmospheric science Gannet Hallar said that the increase of vehicles will have an immediate impact on human health, especially considering the Wasatch Front’s high ozone levels and pollution. The public comment period on the freeway expansion is open until Nov. 13. [KUER]
