The AI Detectors

High school students at East, West, and Highland will now pass through metal detectors that use artificial intelligence when they enter school. The machines are able to detect weapons without opening backpacks or requiring students to go one at a time. [KUER]

Cookies Out of Court

The Utah “cookie wars” have concluded, after Crumbl and Dirty Dough agreed to a settlement. Crumbl sued Dirty Dough more than a year ago for trademark infringement. Back in July, Crumbl settled a similar lawsuit with Crave Cookies. [Salt Lake Tribune]

Utah’s New Black-Owned Bank

There are 18 Black-owned banks left in the U.S., and now one of them is in Utah. A group of prominent Black investors have purchased Holladay Bank & Trust, led by former White House policy advisor Ashley Bell, Dr. Bernice King, the daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Coretta Scott King, and former NFL player Dhani Jones. Pending federal regulatory approval, Holladay Bank will soon have a new name: Redemption Bank. So, is Utah the future of black banking? [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]
