Why are COVID boosters so hard to find?

October 16, 2023

Good morning! If you’re visiting out-of-state relatives, what are some unique Salt Lake/Utah-specific gifts you give them? I’m thinking beyond salt or honey.

What's CITY Talking About?

Southern Utah Roads

The natural erosion process that has shaped southern Utah into what it is today is impacting the roads to popular national park destinations. Due to one exceptionally wet winter, a section of Kolob Canyons road in Zion National Park collapsed. One way visitors can help protect existing roads is to avoid parking on unpaved roads. [KUER]

Addressing Infrastructure Inequities on the Westside

Salt Lake City received nearly $2 million in federal grant funding for its study, “Planning Critical Connections: Healing Salt Lake City’s East-West Divide,” to address infrastructure inequities on the westside. In this planning stage, the city will analyze current and historic policies and transportation decisions as well as gather community input. [Building Salt Lake]

Salt Lake City’s Tallest Building

The final steel beam has been laid at the Astra Tower in downtown SLC. This bad boy looks nothing like the Carl’s Jr. that once held its place. The tallest edition to Salt Lake’s skyline and its two floors of penthouses won’t be buzzing until the end of 2024. But folks in the real estate biz are watching closely as it’s already shifting the vibe downtown. [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]

Where Is It?

Can you locate this mural? (Stan Clawson @themuralfest/Instagram)

It’s been a hot minute since we’ve done a good ol’ “Where Is It?” Last month, Corynn B. and Orvelin R. correctly guessed the location of this stunning mural. It’s on the side of the Emission Time building in South Salt Lake at 2432 S. State Street.

Watch out for that train! A wooden giant sits on the train track. (@PANDA_PR1NC3SS/Reddit)

Can you guess the site of this week’s photo? Bonus if you know what it is.

How Astra Tower Is Changing Downtown SLC

The final steel beam has graced Astra Tower, the luxury apartment building that’s the newest addition to the Salt Lake skyline. But aside from being the tallest building in the state, what does it all mean? Host Ali Vallarta asks local realtor Mitch Finlinson how the Astra is already changing Salt Lake City’s downtown — for better or worse.

Take care.
