Hogi Yogi: A story of love, loss, & redemption

September 5, 2023

Hey, Salt Lake! In today’s newsletter, we’re talking about the tragedy of losing a much-loved, nostalgic food establishment. For me, I think about Frontier Pies and Souper Salad every day (gone but not forgotten 😢). What’s a defunct Utah restaurant buried deep in your core memories?

What's CITY Talking About?

Primary Election Day Info

Happy Primary Election Day! Some Salt Lake County voters may have municipal primaries on their ballots (not SLC, though, because we’re doing ranked choice voting). And Republican voters within the Congressional District 2 boundaries have a GOP primary for the special election to replace outgoing Rep. Chris Stewart. If you forgot to vote until the last minute, don’t worry — you have options:

  • If you have a mail-in ballot: You can return it to a ballot dropbox as late as 8 p.m. today. Find dropbox locations here. You can also postmark your ballot today. Take it directly to the post office and watch them stamp it. Do NOT put it in your mailbox, as there’s no guarantee it will be postmarked in time.
  • No mail-in ballot? No problem. You can vote in person from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at an Election Day vote center.
  • Still need to register to vote? You can at a vote center. You’ll need a valid photo I.D. and proof of residency to cast a provisional ballot.

Why the Congressional District 2 Primary Matters

Primary Election Day is here! Some Salt Lake County residents have municipal races on their ballots. But the big-ticket item — for Republican voters in Congressional District 2 — is the GOP primary to replace outgoing Rep. Chris Stewart. KSL Radio reporter Lindsay Aerts joins lead producer Emily Means to break down the differences between the three candidates and explain the significance of this race.

What did you do over your long weekend, if you had one? I visited our neighbors up north in Island Park, Idaho.
