What's CITY Talking About?

Utah Pride Center

After laying off a portion of their staff and citing “massive financial turmoil,” the Utah Pride Center will close until at least Oct. 1. The leadership team will decide whether to “close, revive, or reset” the well-known LGBTQ+ organization. Their biggest event and fundraiser is the Utah Pride Festival and parade in June. This year, they received criticism over inflated vendor booth fees. And in the past, former employees have claimed mismanagement and financial malfeasance. [Salt Lake Tribune]

Crossing Guard & Bus Driver Shortage

Salt Lake City School District is short on crossing guards and bus drivers. They were only able to cover all the bus routes on the first day of school by wrangling teachers who were licensed to operate, including a math teacher from Highland High School and a football coach from West High School. Salt Lake’s Olympic Bid

The famous Hoberman Arch is returning to our cityscape after nearly a decade. It was an iconic structure from Salt Lake’s 2002 Winter Olympics. City Cast Salt Lake host Ali Vallarta is intrigued by the arch but not convinced we should bring back the Olympics. Can four-time Olympian and chair of Salt Lake City-Utah Committee For the Games Catherine Raney-Norman change her mind? [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]

Enjoy the primary election while it lasts, because the Utah GOP is forcing Republican voters to go to caucus night for next year’s presidential election. Salt Lake Tribune reporter Andy Larsen joins host Ali Vallarta to break down the impacts of ditching primaries. Plus, Ali’s white whale — the Hoberman Arch — makes its triumphant return. And the new face of Utah-based Minky Couture is … a Backstreet Boy.

Happy crying, Salt Lake.
