Did you forget it's Pioneer Day?
July 24, 2023
It’s Pioneer Day, and yes, there is still trash pickup service today. I also want to officially invite you to our 8/01 day celebration with Second Summit Cider.

What's CITY Talking About?
Counting Down Mosquito Days
The climate science research organization Climate Central defines a “mosquito day” as a day with a relative humidity of 42%and a temperature of 50-95 degrees Fahrenheit. Although our record-breaking winter created perfect conditions for mosquito days this summer, they’re becoming a less common occurrence. [Axios Salt Lake]
Take a Swing
Fashion Place Mall has opened “Mi Casa, Your Casa 2.0,” an interactive art installation modeled after mercados in Latin America. The space features red house-like structures with swings in the middle and encourages visitors to engage with the community. It is open to the public through August 20. [Brookfield Properties]
Changes to the Fleet Block Project
An updated plan for Salt Lake City’s Fleet Block proposes a 3-acre public space closer to the 9-Line Trail and adds vehicle access to key spaces in the massive redevelopment of the Granary District. The vacant city-owned property is located at 800 S. and 300 W. and hosts murals depicting the faces of people killed by police. The Utah chapter of Black Lives Matter has expressed concern over the redevelopment, calling for it to remain a space for intersectional community care. The final vote won’t be held until after an upcoming public hearing. [KSL]
The Search for Hogi Yogi
If you’re a longtime Salt Laker you probably feel some sort of nostalgia for the Utah restaurant chain, but is it truly gone? We investigate where you can still find Hogi Yogi/Teriyaki Stix. (City Cast Salt Lake 🎧)

Where Is It?

Did you get this one right? It’s from the Lorin Farr Community Pool in Ogden, famously featured in “The Sandlot” movie. The cult classic turns 30 this year! (I feel very old). What are your favorite moments from the film?

This week, can you guess where these bronze statues are?
