City Cast Salt Lake

Salt Lake's best farmers markets

June 23, 2023

Good morning! I’m still not over the Instagram account Salt Lego City. The library! State Street taco stand! The whale! What’s your favorite piece? Send me an email.

Shoutout to City Cast Salt Lake host Ali Vallarta for that one. It was one of her picks of the week!

What's CITY Talking About?

PornHubgate

The latest in the PornHub debacle? The Utah Attorney General’s office is asking a judge to dismiss the Free Speech Coalition’s lawsuit over Utah’s age verification law for adult content websites. ICYMI, PornHub blocked users in Utah because it couldn’t comply. [KUER]

Coyote Watch

A dog near Tanner Park was killed by a coyote. Salt Lake County Animal Services said this type of attack is rare, but it does happen. This spring has seen more wildlife wander down to lower elevation in search of food since the mountains are still frosty. [FOX 13]

  • Add it to the list: Coyotes, mountain lions, bears … here’s what to do if you encounter one. [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]

Wildfire Safety

It’s firework season and wildfire season. Not a great combo. On City Cast Salt Lake, host Ali Vallarta chatted with former wildland firefighter Jonathon Golden about fire safety tips and the firefighter wage battle. [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]

Mormon Cricket Apocalypse, Speed Bump Beef, and Another Highway Expansion

If there’s one thing you can count on the Utah Department of Transportation to do, it’s expand a highway. Lead producer Emily Means joins host Ali Vallarta to break down how turning Bangerter Highway into Bangerter Freeway could displace 241 homes in West Valley City. Plus, some residents in SLC’s Wasatch Hollow neighborhood have beef with planned speed bumps on 1300 S. And, are you prepared in case of a Mormon cricket emergency?

Buggin’ out.
