What's CITY Talking About?
Lawsuit Over Censorship of Family-Friendly Drag Show
The ACLU of Utah has filed a lawsuit against the city of St. George, alleging censorship of family-friendly drag performances. The lawsuit claims that the city violated the performers' First and Fourteenth Amendment rights by canceling the Allies Community Drag Show Festival, which was scheduled to take place at J.C. Snow Park. The ACLU argues that the city's actions constitute viewpoint discrimination and seek to prevent the festival from expressing messages of diversity and inclusion. [KUTV]
Age Verification for Online Pornography
Utah is considering hiring a company to provide age verification for users accessing online pornography sites. A new bill restricts access for individuals under the age of 18 by requiring credentials, but the state didn’t previously offer a solution to companies like PornHub. [KSL]
More Mosquitoes Incoming
Increased spring runoff in the Wasatch Front region has led to a surge in mosquito populations. Floodwater mosquitoes thrive in stagnant water, which has become more abundant with the recent precipitation. The mosquito abatement office says they are working to mitigate the issue. [ABC 4]
- 🦟 Get some relief: If your neighborhood is being inundated with mosquitoes, you can reach out to your local abatement office and request that they spray the area with anti-mosquito juice.

Salt Lake Chatter
Last week Terina asked for suggestions for reader Kelpie R., whose daughter is visiting in June and wants to have a FrontRunner adventure for a vegan lunch. A theme emerged! Plus, you added to the expanding list of best local breweries.
🥑 On a vegan FrontRunner adventure:
“Ride the FrontRunner to Ogden and enjoy the best vegan lunch ever at Cuppa.” — Devin V.
“Ride the train to Ogden! The frontrunner stop is conveniently located so you can walk to Ogden’s 25th street. I love going to a baseball game at Lindquist Field, which is also walking distance from the train.” — Mattie K.
“While there aren't too many vegan places in Ogden, I have two suggestions.
1.) Harp and Hound is a downtown bar/restaurant that has a full plant-based menu.
2.) If you walk a few blocks to the east you'll find Cuppa, which is legitimately one of my favorite places for coffee or food in Ogden. Whole place is vegan and their food is unreal. You'd also walk by The Monarch, which always has stuff going on.
If you go to Ogden on a Saturday, the farmers market will be up and running starting May 27! It's the best time of the year up here, but I may be biased because I live here.” — Jacob S.
🍻 On the best Salt Lake breweries:
“Fisher Brewery. Fisher was I think the oldest brewery in SLC but was sold. Then resurrected with new recipes!” — Merrilee D.
“You missed Roha! They have great, creative beers and have become a pillar of the Ballpark Community. There’s music and food trucks all the time, and they lend out their used hops bags to assist our weekly community cleanup. It’s a great place.” — Brady S.
