A guide to the li’l bit country town of Riverton

May 17, 2023

Good morning! In today’s newsletter, vote on the future of Ballpark and spend a day in Riverton.

What's CITY Talking About?

Ballpark NEXT

Vote on your favorite design from the Ballpark NEXT competition through May 25 and help decide the future of the Smith's Ballpark site. ICYMI, the Bee’s are moving to Daybreak. The unofficial proposal “The Swarm,” made the rounds in March and had people talking, including us. [Twitter]

There She Blows

The Crystal Geyser located along the Green River in eastern Utah, is erupting! The site hasn’t seen an eruption in years, but geologists reckon this was caused by Utah’s especially wet winter. When the water table rises, it causes CO2 gas to shoot the water into the air. [Twitter]

Red Rock Vandalism Goes Viral

In other southern Utah news, vandalism went viral after a photo was shared on Twitter of a family name etched into the red rocks. This isn’t the first time public lands have been defaced. When in doubt, keep nature how you found it, people. [Salt Lake Tribune]

What Renters Should Know

Utah is known for many exquisite things, but not renters’ rights! A lot of tenants are getting ready to sign and renew their leases right now, and if you are one of them, please listen to this episode of City Cast Salt Lake with People’s Legal Aid attorney Marcus Degen. He helps break down the legal mumbo jumbo in host Ali Vallarta’s boilerplate Utah lease into plain language. [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]

Sneaky Clauses in Your Utah Lease Agreement

Do you really know what’s in your lease? We don’t blame you if you only skimmed it — there’s a lot of legalese muddying just what it is you agreed to as a renter. Today, we revisit a conversation between host Ali Vallarta and Marcus Degen, an attorney with the tenant advocacy organization People’s Legal Aid. Marcus helps us break down what exactly is in Utah’s boilerplate rental agreements.

Bye, y’all.
