This brewery is putting Helper, UT on the map

Helper Beer

The town of Helper wants to be more than a pit stop on your way to Moab. Two Utah residents, Amy and Jaron Anderson, are making that possible with their brewery Helper Beer which opened in April. According to a study by the Brewers Association, craft breweries are becoming more popular in rural areas. Between 2013 and 2018 the industry grew by 129% in small towns. [KUER]

Utah’s Film Industry

Utah is set to host five new film productions which is estimated to bring nearly $85 million into the state. Around 90 percent of the economic impact will happen in rural areas. One of the productions will be a sequel to a Hallmark Channel holiday movie. Here’s hoping we also get a Falling for Christmas II in our future. [FOX 13]

LDS Church’s IRS Whistleblower on 60 Minutes

The whistleblower who reported The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the IRS is breaking his silence on “60 minutes.” In 2019, he filed a complaint that accused the church of amassing $100 billion in donations that was never spent on charity, which is in violation of tax law. In a settlement, the church agreed to pay $5 million in penalties for failing to disclose stock holdings. [Salt Lake Tribune]
