A guide to eating good in West Valley
May 10, 2023
Good morning! Asking for a reader: “I’d like to know where the best boutiques are in SLC.” Do you have any suggestions? Send me an email.

What's CITY Talking About?
Woman Who Wrote Book on Grief Charged With Murder
A Utah woman, Kouri Richins, who wrote a children’s book about dealing with grief, has been charged with her husband's murder. An autopsy shows Eric Richins died of a fentanyl overdose. The level of the drug in his system was about five times the lethal dosage. [KPCW]
Unreported Deaths of Unsheltered People
In December, five people died in seven days on Salt Lake City streets due to harsh winter conditions. But since then, there’s been no record kept of other unsheltered people who may have died during one of the snowiest winters our city has seen. Generally, Salt Lake City police don’t track the death of unsheltered people, but they reported on the five because “The deaths … happened within a few days and gained public interest.” On City Cast Salt Lake, we chatted with a public defender about how SLC criminalizes homelessness. Park City Monopoly
Have you ever played Salt Lake City Monopoly (Salt Lake City-opoly)? Where you pass pastrami burgers and traffic jams? Well, now Hasbro is making a Park City edition and wants to hear from locals on what should be included. Email your submissions through June 20. My suggestion for one of the Monopoly pieces is Gwyneth Paltrow on skis. [TownLift]
Salt Lake Gardening Showdown
It’s a gardening showdown this weekend as two big gardens host their annual plant sales on the same day. Are you getting in the (potting) mix? Or do you find growing things overwhelming? On today’s episode of City Cast Salt Lake, host Ali Vallarta chats with experimental gardener Madison Boerner about tips for growing beautiful things anywhere. [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]

Food & Drink

Joshua Jones of the Downtown Alliance reported on food news, including a couple things coming soon:
Water Witch 2.0 & STK
The trio behind the popular bar Water Witch on 900 S. is opening a new location downtown. It’ll be in the historic Cramer House, which was built in 1890 by Danish immigrant and florist Christopher Cramer.
STK, an international steakhouse that has locations in Milan and London, will open near the new Le Meridien hotel. It will share the space with Adelaide (a French-themed breakfast place) and Van Ryder (the rooftop bar).
