Take a day trip to Ogden

Good morning! Question: A friend from Salt Lake and a friend from Provo decide to meet up somewhere in the middle. Where should they go? Send me an email.

What's CITY Talking About?
Hogle Zoo Elephants
Hogle Zoo has announced it will put a pause on its elephant exhibit and relocate its two elephants, Christie and Zuri, to a different facility. The decision was made after extensive research and evaluation of the zoo's current capabilities. These highly sociable animals do better in a larger, multi-herd habitat. [Salt Lake Tribune]
Utah Learns From Israel’s Water Conservation Efforts
A group of Utah water officials and lawmakers traveled to Israel’s Negev Desert to learn about innovative water conservation techniques that could be applied to the Great Salt Lake. The group visited farms and facilities that utilize drip irrigation, vertical gardens, and other water-efficient methods. Listen to City Cast Salt Lake to hear about ways a local farm is conserving water. [FOX 13]
Utah Arts & Museums Survey
You can help shape the next five years of arts and museums in Utah by taking this quick survey. The Utah Division of Arts & Museums is gathering community insight and input as they work on the new phase of their strategic planning. Let your voice be heard! [Survey Monkey]
Salt Lake’s Tree Initiative
When the temps heat up and so does the pavement, it’s easy to notice what parts of our city have more trees than others. It’s called tree equity, and it’s one reason Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall launched her 1,000 trees initiative to plant more shade on the west side. On today’s episode of City Cast Salt Lake, lead producer Emily Means joins host Ali Vallarta to give a reporter debrief on everything you should know about the city’s efforts. Food & Drink

Yelp compiled the 100 best restaurants in the southwest and dozens of Utah restaurants made the cut. Here are a few new-to-me places from the list that I’m looking forward to trying:
Capitol Burger
I’m always on the hunt for a good burger, but is this place worth the three hour drive? Capitol Burger is located in Torrey, Utah near Capitol Reef National Park and was the highest ranking spot on the list. If you have spring/summer plans to hit up the national parks, make sure to bookmark Capitol Burger.
Little India
This American Fork restaurant has a five-star rating on Yelp (with over 200 reviews) and took the number 12 spot. Reviewers rave over their butter chicken and coconut curry.
Vito’s
You won’t have to take a plane to try a classic Philly cheesesteak, just head to Bountiful. Be prepared though, this place is cash only.

Today on City Cast

Salt Lakers love our urban forest. Over the past few years, the City has added thousands of trees to our landscape, largely due to an initiative by Mayor Erin Mendenhall. But who’s watering all these trees? Lead producer Emily Means puts on her reporter hat and joins host Ali Vallarta to dig into the challenges and opportunities of the city’s tree-planting efforts.
