Salt Lake's Most Underrated Parks
Do you identify as a park person? We are proud park people here at City Cast Salt Lake. Whether it’s taking a quick stroll, people watching, or picnicking, here are two underrated parks you may not know about.
🌳 Miller Bird Refuge and Nature Park
This park was reconstructed to help rehabilitate a riparian habitat. A riparian zone is a bank alongside a watercourse, like a river, that is a precious ecosystem to native vegetation and local wildlife. Miller is a beautiful place to spend an afternoon. One thing to note: Dogs are not allowed off-leash.
🌳 Alzheimer’s Wildlife Grove
The Alzheimer’s Wildlife Grove was designed to be a place of solace for caregivers of those with Alzheimer’s, as it’s more of a secluded park. Nearby Franklin Elementary uses the park for the Trails & Natural Lands’ Out of School into Nature program.
Bonus: Hear from park ranger Nahuel Tulian on how to be a better park-goer. [City Cast Salt Lake 🎧]

Facts About Utah Animals in Winter

While sleep is involved, of course, hibernation is animals conserving energy through minimal activity, slowed metabolism, and lowered heart rates. Here are some of the animals you may encounter during Utah’s colder months.

Everyone in Utah Should Take This Underappreciated Scenic Drive
The Energy Loop, one of the best scenic drives in Utah, actually consists of two forks. From Fairview, you'll travel along State Highway 31 to the junction of State Highway 264. From there, the byway forks. You can continue along State Highway 264 to Scofield, then on to Colton. Or, head south through the Manti-La Sal National Forest along State Highway 31 until you reach Huntington.
