What Salt Lake's Talking About

Kouri Richins Sentenced to Life

Kouri Richins, who wrote a children’s book about grief after her husband’s death, has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for killing him. Her attorneys plan to motion for a new trial and appeal the case. [KPCW]

Hantavirus Is Not a Threat to Utahns

Three Utahns were among the 18 people exposed to the Andes hantavirus on a cruise ship and are now in isolation. Unlike other versions of hantavirus, Andes can spread person-to-person. The Utah Department of Health and Human Services said there is no current concern about the infection spreading widely in our state. [Salt Lake Tribune, Utah Department of Health]

Taylorsville Cop Charged with Manslaughter

Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill has charged a police officer with manslaughter in the 2024 death of an unarmed man, Henry Chavez Jr. It marks the first time in more than a decade that Gill has charged an officer in an on-duty shooting. It’s around this time of year when the heat sets in and I only want to wear open-toed shoes. You know what that means – it’s pedicure season! If you’re looking to get your tootsies in shape, here are some of the best pedicures in Salt Lake (and beyond).

Soleil Nail Studio

Ever heard of a dry pedicure? Soleil on 100 South have ‘em! It’s the same great pedicure without soaking your feet in water.

Coco Art & Spa

If you’re looking to spend some one on one time with a family member, this beach resort-style spa near 9th & 9th is a perfect place to treat your mom (or sister).

The Grand Spa

Book one service and you can use the spa’s amenities for the day (indoor/outdoor pool, steam room, etc.). The grand pedicure comes with an enzyme peel and leg and foot massage. Monday through Thursday they offer discounts to Utah residents!

Nail It Spa

Many of the best nail salons can be found in your neighborhood strip mall. A few years ago, this spa in Sandy had a video go viral when someone captured a sweet interaction between a nail tech and her client.

New Image Day and Med Spa

City Cast Salt Lake executive producer Emily Means recommends this spa for all of our friends in Ogden: "I took my sister here for a birthday pedicure, and it was super relaxing. The service was great, and they offered us tea and frozen grapes! Luxurious."

Correction: In our city budget breakdown this week, we misidentified the purpose of a $400K line item. It’ll actually be used for general downtown beautification during the 2027 temple reopening. A city spokesperson told us the beehive lamppost proposal is no longer moving forward.
